Enhancing Safety and Accessibility at Åhus Parish

Safety and accessibility are vital considerations in any space, and Åhus Parish recognized the importance of addressing these aspects within their premises. The parish encountered challenges as several employees and visitors, particularly those with progressive glasses, faced difficulty discerning differences in floor levels. Instances of near accidents and missed steps on the staircase prompted a thorough reassessment of their environment.

Enter Gradus, a trusted expert in safety solutions. Our dedicated team visited Åhus Parish, understanding the significance of providing an effective and comprehensive solution to address their unique challenges.

Indoor Staircase Safety

With a focus on adhering to Swedish accessibility regulations, Gradus recommended the strategic insertion of StarTiles Discs into the massive oak staircase at both the top and bottom steps. These anti-slip inlays not only enhanced visibility but also significantly reduced the risk of accidents on the stairs.

Inside the assembly hall, a customized stair nose was thoughtfully installed to clearly mark the end of the staircase. To ensure harmonization with the overall aesthetics, the color of the anti-slip inlay on the stair nosing was meticulously adapted to match the joint color of the brick floor. Moreover, we carefully checked that the contrast deviation was within the acceptable limit of 0.4 according to NCS accessibility requirements.

Outdoor Step Safety

Gradus also drew attention to an outdoor step that posed a potential hazard if easily missed. We swiftly responded by installing a stair nosing with an exterior insert. This solution not only bolstered safety but also seamlessly complemented the aesthetics of the outdoor space.

The collaboration between Åhus Parish and Gradus proved to be transformative. Safety and accessibility were significantly enhanced, creating a secure and inclusive environment for all employees and visitors.
