Interior design solutions for Psychiatric Care

In the realm of psychiatric care, creating environments that foster safety, tranquility, and healing is paramount. Drawing from years of experience and expertise, Gradus offers innovative solutions that blend safety and aesthetics seamlessly, catering to the unique needs of consumers and users in psychiatric care settings. To expand our knowledge regarding this topic, Gradus participated in a workshop in France with Gerflor.

At the core of Gradus' approach to interior design for psychiatric care is a steadfast commitment to safety. Understanding the nuanced challenges of these environments, Gradus offers a range of products designed to mitigate risks and enhance safety. From durable wall protectors to specialised flooring solutions, Gradus ensures that every aspect of the environment is tailored to promote the well-being of patients and staff alike.

Ingemar Jensen, Key Account Manager Healthcare of partner Gerflor, represents the Gradus range. He participated in the workshop in France and shares his insights:

– I would say that the progress of environments for better mental health and better environment for people with neuropsychiatric disabilities is in the details. Here, Gradus and Gerflor have incredible opportunities through their wide range of flooring, walls and accessories in all their forms. Much lies in the competence of us as employees and companies to span a wide range of products and assist prescribers with advice and solutions to problems highlighted by organisations and users.

Creating Comfortable and Inviting Spaces

Beyond safety, Gradus' interior design solutions are crafted to create spaces that are comfortable and inviting. Recognizing the importance of aesthetics in promoting a sense of calm and relaxation, Gradus offers a variety of design options that cater to diverse preferences and needs. Whether it's customizable wall protectors or seamless flooring transitions, Gradus' solutions are designed to elevate the ambiance of psychiatric care environments.

– In general, the talk within healthcare environments is about creating a home-like environment. This also applies to psychiatric care environments. The challenge is to create a calm environment that is not perceived as boring. Some stimulation is needed. One example of this is our Artworx wall protection, on which you can print your own motifs. This allows you to personalise the design of the environment as well as making it safe and durable.

Innovative Design Trends for Well-Being

As trends in healthcare interior design evolve, Gradus remains at the forefront of innovation. Leveraging cutting-edge materials and technology, Gradus continually introduces new solutions that push the boundaries of what is possible in psychiatric care environments. The innovative approach that Gradus and Gerflor are collaborating in, ensures that psychiatric care spaces are not only safe but also aesthetically pleasing and conducive to healing.

– Developments are taking place on many fronts. One example is creating handrails that are difficult to attach things to so that they cannot be used in suicide attempts.  Another development project is to create more natural-looking materials to protect the walls to avoid an institutional feel, says Ingemar Jensen.

By learning from successes and challenges alike, Gradus continuously refines its offerings to better meet the evolving needs of consumers and users. Each solution is carefully crafted to address specific pain points and deliver tangible benefits in terms of safety, functionality, and aesthetics.

Ingemar continues:

– Floor and wall coverings are a good match in these environments, especially when we can create neat, seamless transitions that don't draw attention to seams or joints but create a calm and hygienic surface.

– It was interesting to meet people around our globe and see that many communities have great challenges in creating good environments for behavioural and mental health. I believe that in our global network we have incredible opportunities to exchange experiences and create good solutions for the customer, Ingemar Jensen concludes.
